We had an exciting night last week with some new friends at PureLogic IT.

They brought in our Instant Photos with Santa team for some fun at their Christmas open house office party. We rolled into their office kitchen, popped up an instant photo studio, Santa and Mrs Claus arrived – photos were snapped, Santa was kissed, little dogs were coddled, adored and photographed, photos were printed, snacks and drinks were had, and a good time was had by all.

Our photo-print tech even created a couple of amazing balloon creations for the kids. They kids left with Spiderman, ladybugs, and even an alien. One of the little three year old dudes even got talked out a meltdown while watching a lightning McQueen wrist-band balloon get created. Thanks PureLogic! Looking forward to working with you guys again soon!

Alice in Wonderland Installation at the Ottawa International Children’s Festival 2015

Flashback to last May 2015, where I (Brian R. Wilson) ended up literally down the rabbit hole with my crew of performers at the Ottawa International Children’s festival. We were putting on a show and Alice in Wonderland strolling performance installation with a crew of incredible performers, giant puppets, and a crowd of children.

Right beside our tent / performance space there was a huge inflatable walk-though installation by the This installation was incredible, walking through the inflatable felt like you’re on a different planet.

I ended up in the catacombs in the inflatable with my DSLR and the Mad Hatter Tea Party crew from Orbital Talent.  We were just missing Patrice and the catepillar in these shots.

Big thanks to the OICF for having us! We are looking forward to more fun next year!

Chalkmaster Dave

Since the 16th century, when the first street artists began delighting the public with their creative imagery, entertainers have traveled rom festival to festival drawing pictures in the town squares to delight the townsfolk and support their art with a few stray coins.  Today, you can attend festivals celebrating this type of art all around the world, never seeing the same performance twice. The modern form is 3D Chalk Art, also known as 3D Sidewalk Art. One of the biggest attractions of chalk art is that it is as much about the excitement of performance as it is the final piece.

Dave has been from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts of Canada performing at festivals, even traveling internationally to exhibit his art. You may have seen him at the Ottawa International Buskerfest, Halifax International Busker Festival, St.John’s Busker Festival, Just For Laughs, Singapore Street Festival, or Norway’s PITT Festival. Among his awards are the People’s Choice Best Artist in Halifax, P.E.I., Toronto and Masseys International Street Art Competition.

Magician Rafael Montero

Since 1994, Magician Rafael Montero has earned his living performing magic, comedy, and spectacular visual stunts. Out of necessity to eat and pay rent, he took to the streets of Montreal, and began performing magic, hoping to collect a few bucks to get back into an apartment after two weeks of couch surfing. Magician, Rocker, Punker, Fire Eater, Tattoo Enthusiast, and diehard Star Wars fan, Rafael has been performing full-time ever since with amazing success!

Over the last 17 years, Rafael has performed for big events such as Just for Laughs, Cirque du Soleil, as well as some of the best Street Festivals in the world, such as Halifax Buskers festival.

His talent landed him several television commercials, his favorite being for Reese Peanut Butter cups. Rafael acted as consultant to the effects, as well as being the main performer.

Rafael has acted as spokesperson for local Montreal buskers and talent, engaging politically at city hall meetings, and rallying to keep street arts alive. Charity performances include The Hospital for Sick Children in Nova Scotia, Canada, and performing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to raise funds for orphaned children.

In 2010, Rafael earned himself the Jury Prize “Coup de Coeur” (heartfelt favorite) at the Vevey, Switzerland international street arts festival. Now a proud father and family man, Rafael resides in Montreal, Canada, with his loving partner Josée-France, and their gorgeous baby boy Romeo.

Josh Williams

Josh was born funny, but needed to frustrate coworkers in several different fields before realizing his dream of becoming a stand-up comic. After getting fired from 5-Star hotels, big name retail stores, restaurants, corporate telecommunications, and even as an electrician, he knew it was time to take the stage…

In late 2008, he performed his first stand-up set, at an open mic, in front of 50 people in a leaky campus basement. Despite the conditions, the show was fantastic. Two weeks later, Josh took the stage on “Pro/Am Night” at Absolute Comedy, Canada’s hottest comedy club. In front of a sold out crowd, the laughter was intoxicating, and he’s never looked back.

Less than a year after beginning his comedy career, he created “The Dark and Dirty Show”, a bi-monthly show that caters to a crowd that prefers its comedy with more of an edge. The show continues to be produced by Josh, and takes place at Absolute Comedy, in Ottawa, Ontario.

During 2009, while continuing to grow and hone his craft, he performed in cities including Ottawa, London, Montreal, and Toronto. His style is based on making fun of hot button issues, but he approaches the subjects as an innocent, well meaning fool, who often doesn’t understand the full scope of the matter, and thus ends up the butt of every joke.

In April 2010, he co-created “Open Mic Mondays”, again at Absolute Comedy. The show gives an opportunity to aspiring comedians, local amateurs, and seasoned veterans to take the stage, and try out new material in front of a more intimate, unbiased crowd.

Josh currently lives in Ottawa, and performs at clubs, universities, military bases, golf courses, legions, charity events, competitions, and just about anywhere with a microphone, spotlight and stage. In a time where cancer is rampant, debt is at an all time high, and reality tv is more popular than reading, Josh presents himself as the voice of an apathetic generation trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Most of all, he’s doing what he loves, and hopes you enjoy what he does too…

Comedian Geoff MacKay

As the dreary act of joining a bureaucratic workforce bound to a stranger’s bottom line occurred to Geoff in his early twenties, he realized that earning a reliable salary, casual fridays, and morning conversations about the weather were not for him. He began wandering on to stages and telling funny anecdotes in Ottawa, Canada as a means of avoiding the vapid work vortex.

His absurd observations about toasters, math textbooks, skydiving and social convention make him a fixture in the Canadian comedy landscape. He has performed across Canada, the UK, the Culturally Divided States of America, and China.

In 2014 he was the Winner of the Canadian Comedy Awards “Funniest Person in the Ottawa Valley” contest.

Geoff is now busy performing theatre, club, festival, and corporate shows across Canada and has recently performed at the Just For Laughs Festival (Toronto), CBC’s Laugh Out Loud, the Canadian Comedy Awards, Comic Vision, Cracking Up the Capital Festival, and the North by Northeast Music Festival.

“The Renaissance Carolers have been preforming at Manotick’s Olde Fashioned Christmas for many years. They are a great addition to our event. Visitors always enjoy their performances.  Year after year the carolers prove to be very professional and reliable which is an added bonus to their great singing ability.”

What live performers can bring to YOUR event?

What live performers can bring to YOUR event?

The Mysterious Gitana Georgia The Mysterious Gitana Georgia

Live performers can turn an event from something drab into a magical experience, and you can expect a great performer or set of performers to create a unique vibrant atmosphere. Your options are vast when it comes to live performers, and more and more people are sidestepping traditional acts such as live bands in favour of arguably more exciting options such as fire performers and troupes of magicians. The right live act can bring a real sense of electricity to your event and can make your evening go with a bang rather than a whimper.

Going the extra mile
Whether you’re putting on a corporate event for promotional purposes or simply wishing to reward your staff for their hard work, the benefits of live entertainment are numerous. If your business associates are attending your event, you can impress them with the amount of effort that has been put into your event. This shows that you are willing to go the extra mile to create something memorable and magnificent. Whilst putting on an event yourself can seem daunting, the help of a professional entertainments agency can be worth its weight in gold.

A seamless experience
A corporate events team can oversee every aspect of your event, and you can expect to have as big or small an influence on your event as you like. Most events are conceived with a brainstorming session. During a brainstorming session, a corporate events team will ask you if you have any ideas about the kind of event you wish to put on and whether you have any ideas about the kind of performers you are looking for. You can expect a great events team to take your ideas and bring them to reality in the most stunning manner possible, even if your initial ideas only seem sketchy on paper.

A powerful morale booster
One of the best aspects of corporate events is that they are fantastic for morale, and if you put the effort into rewarding your staff for the work they have done, they are more likely to want to stay with you and appreciate working for your company. The feel-good factor offered by a great event can linger around the workplace for long after the occasion has come to an end. A wonderful corporate event can also encourage staff members who don’t usually work together to get to know each other, making in-work morale levels soar.

Your chance to be creative
More and more businesses are turning their back on conventional or conservative types of live performance in order to offer something a little different that really grabs the attention of their guests.

fire eaters, strolling magicians, or even las vegas showgirls are just a few examples of this approach. You may even wish to book various different performers for your event to create a truly epic spectacle. It’s a good idea to create a themed event to stop the live entertainment seeming incoherent or awkward. Event planners usually have a huge address book too, which means that they can identify the right talent for your event quickly and efficiently – and they’ll look after all the relevant paperwork on your behalf too.

Blue Mushroom Sirkus Psyshow

The first of two related Blue Mushroom Sirkus Psyshow productions bears no official name, but is affectionately referred to by its performers as “The Best of Both Worlds”. It is a Cabaret style presentation of non-stop Circus and Sideshow feats, Dance, Burlesque, Theater… and sometimes Free Beer! The acts featured in this show are as eclectic as this show’s musical accompanyment, a journey in itself, offering up a seamless collage of 1930’s Jazz crooning, 2 Penny Opera, Flamenco, Dub Step, Psychill, Irish Drinking Songs and Folk-Metal! It is as though the artists themselves wandered through a Faery Circle, out of their smokey speak-easys, musty theaters and dusty circus rings and onto a stage for you to discover.

The second Blue Mushroom production; “Away with the Faeries”, was written by István and was inspired by a Shpongle album and a passage from the 1923 book “The Mysteries of Psychic Science” which István read while training to swallow swords, over 20 years ago. In this long out-of-print treatese on “The Paranormal”, the researcher finds himself in the Far East observing a Fakir in the execution of his craft. Finding himself perplexed by the Fakir’s performance, the reseacher found himself questioning not only if these feats were possible, but if he’d in fact seen them at all; if the whole scene wasn’t some sort of “mass hallucination”inspired by something he ate. Away with the Faeries is István’s attempt to bring the audience to that point in time, to put the audience in the researcher’s shoes… and a few other places and times along the winding road of this creation…

This enchanting, dark Faery Tale is about time and its ravages on ancient arts and traditions. It’s about growing old while staying young at heart and never losing your sense of wonder. It’s about adventure, mysteries, legend and superstition. It’s about the friends you make in your travels that keep you safe in unfamiliar surroundings. It’s about becoming lost in the music, a tall-tale or a day-dream. It’s about returning home from abroad to be shaken out of a melancholy daydream by a loved one. It’s about the tall tales of travels one tells, that one never knows to believe or dismiss. It is an old time traveling circus set in a modern day faery tale.

Through the character of “Levi”; (yes, our intrepid Strongman has found himself as the rather unlikely protagonist in this Faery Tale), and his travelling companion; Etidorhpa, the audience is transported through the Faery Circle and to various times, places and alternate realities. From the mysterious Far East to caves on the Tassili Plateau, to a carnival in the 1930’s and various other destinations in Levi’s voyage, the cast of Thirteen World-Class Performers will guide you on your own voyage through the Faery Circle. So friend, take a seat at the edge of our fire, as you are brought to a world of magic, mysticism, superstition and ineffable mysteries.

Carl “The Mighty Leviticus”

Carl “The Mighty Leviticus” is a shining example of the multitude of stories that can surround one artist. The Strongman’s true pedigree is still a mystery, though in my opinion, he resembles a Danish Raider known only by Kjarl. Rumored to have been found on a mid-way by István, other elaborations say he was captured in the jungles of darkest Afrika, still other stories tell that “Levi” was a sailor who after having sailed the seven seas many times over, his thirst for adventure led him to abandon the sea in search of what lay the end of the horizon.

There is an abundance of photographic material, found by various internauts, as well as from the archives of collectors, which would seem to place Leviticus, anachronistically in various shows in the past. There are photos of the Strongman on the midway in a prominent 1930’s mud-show named Carnivále Lune Bleue; there are glass negatives that place him as an attraction with a Victorian era sideshow, or perhaps it was a dime-museum. The name of that show was lost to history, the only known details are that it was a wonderful show in its hay-day, but it is said that the show lost its appeal with its inheritance by the original founder’s nincompoop Grandson. One collector has claimed to possess a photo of “The Mighty Leviticus” and the famous Strongman, the Great Louis Cyr arm wrestling. The collector has however declined to part with it, or even produce it for verification for that matter.

Carl is Also part of Blue Mushroom Sirkus Psyshow

Chris Pilsworth was born in Toronto in 1963, but has lived most of his life in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city.

Chris’ enthusiasm for magic was sparked at the age of twelve, when he attended a magic show at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre. This interest continued unabated throughout his high school and university years. After graduating from Carleton University in 1986, Chris decided to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time professional magician. The degree he earned in Industrial Design (with distinction) has greatly enhanced Chris’ ability to create unique props and illusions.

After entertaining thousands of satisfied customers at corporate and private events, Chris was drawn towards the theatre. In 1997, following many years of planning, he independently produced and starred in his own theatrical magic show. Entitled: Disappearing Nightly, the ‘dramagic’ production brought together many never-seen-before illusions with music, dance and drama. The premier show played a full week to capacity crowds at the Ron Maslin Playhouse in Kanata, Ontario, and received standing ovations every night. This and the show: Catch The Magic has continued to tour throughout the province of Ontario.

Chris has participated in many magic competitions and won awards at both the national and international level. He is a winner of the Tom Auburn Award in Montreal.
